My youtube video and essay ‘the 21 foundations of animation’ has been expanded into a 2-hour course on LinkedIn Learning (Sign up via the link and I get a commission).
I’ve tried a few times over the years to organise my courses/classes into the old ’12 principles’ structure by Disney’s Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. Every time I tried I found about half of my movies fell outside of that list – so reluctantly I decided to create my own. Hopefully I’ve managed to avoid leaving out anything too crucial, but I think this new course will be crucial for any student – especially as it’s created in the approximate sequence in which one should learn the 21 foundations, with acting and staging at the start, and the more technical and challenging (e.g., overlap) near the end.
At only two hours, this is a very concise course, and will solve the ‘you don’t know what you don’t know problem’. Many of the chapters point toward other courses in my collection that deal with the foundations in greater detail.
If you don’t already have a subscription, the link below will give you a free 30 day trial, more than enough time to watch the course.
